Hello from Iceland! This week has been absolutely incredible. If Iceland is not on your travel bucket list, I would highly recommend adding it.
This week, the girls and I got into what will be our school routine for the year. We get up in the morning, eat some breakfast and gather our things. Then we head out to find a coffee shop, bookstore or library to work in. Our pick this week was the bookstore Eymundsson, in the heart of Reykjavik. It was a lovely bookstore with a coffee shop on the third and fourth floors. Then I absolutely use the “free wifi with purchase” sign as an excuse to continue my coffee habit while the girls unpack and get setup for the morning.

The girls work on reading, writing, math, typing, local history, science, learning some of the local language, working on research reports, and journaling every morning. Then in the afternoon, we go experience something. This week we explored Reykjavik, took a walking tour to learn more about stories tied to Reykjavik, went to the National Museum, and went to the Perlan Museum.

In the Perlan museum, we learned about Icelandic history, geography and ecology. We got to experience what earthquakes leading up to a volcanic eruption feel like, walk though an indoor ice cave made from ice from a nearby glacier, and look over the city from the rooftop.

Each day was great, but my favorite was definitely the Perlan Museum. Audrey’s favorite part of last week was also visiting the Perlan Museum. Maurene’s favorite parts of last week were eating croissants and our walking tour of Reykjavik. This week we move to the Icelandic countryside. We will try to maintain our routine even in a very rural setting! Wish us luck!
